Historical background to Tucepi

     Tucepi has a long turbulent history tracing back to the Prehistoric period (Illyrians, 2000 BC - 1st cent. AD).It is believed that the Venetian doge Pietro Candiano I, victim of a battle against Neretvanians on September 18, 887 was buried in the local churchyard. Roman tegulae have been found in abundance in the area, as have many important antique and medieval artefacts dated from the 10th to the 17th century.
